Manta Port Terminal mobilized a record number of cargo in 2017

The Manta Port Terminal (TPM), operated by the Chilean company AGUNSA, attained a record number of cargo for 2017.  It mobilized 871.404,71 metric tons, according to a press release.  The types of cargo that registered a large increase with regards to 2016 were vehicles, at 256%, solid bulk grains at 59%, international fishery at 30% and national fishery at 11%.  TPM also announced over the past days, that construction on the Passenger Terminal for cruise vessels advanced 40% during the past year.  It is estimated that it will be operating for the cruise vessel season of 2018-2019, with an area of 1.316 square metres. This project represents an investment of 1,8 million USD.

Other projects that TPM has planned are the rehabilitation and repair of the international berths, as well as the extension of international berth 2 of Manta Port, by an additional 100 metres.  After the approval of the delegating entity (Port Authority of Manta), the company started work with an investment of 7 million USD.  These rehabilitation works, which are expected to be completed in June, will strengthen the piers and the access ramps, according to TPM.  Once the works are concluded, the Port of Manta will be able to receive Post Panamax type vessels of up to 360 metres in length and 12 metres in draft.  In addition, in their facilities they will be able to operate mobile cranes of 480 tons with lifting capacities of 120 tons.  The entity announced that it acquired equipment and machinery for the modernization of its equipment.  It incorporated within its inventory, forklifts for the handling of general cargo; 5 platforms, 5 tractors; 2 reachstackers for the handling of full containers and 1 reachstacker for the handling of empty containers.
