Manta Port will open its new cruise passenger terminal in October

Hand in hand with Port Terminal Manta (TPM), the main Ecuadorian port for cruise vessels, it will inaugurate its passenger terminal in October.  This was announced to PortalCruceros.cl, by the General Manager of TPM, Samuel Franco Caicedo, who assured that the passenger terminal is part of phase 1A of the mandatory works of the concession contract signed by the subsidiary AGUNSA, a Chilean company, with the Ecuadorian Government. “We completed the extension of Pier 2 to 300 metres, we have completed the reconstruction of the port accesses that were seriously damaged by the earthquake on April 16th, 2016, also the piles were reinforced in the berths, we have completed the majority of the works from Phase 1A, where we only need to complete the passenger terminal for cruise vessels, which we should be inaugurating on the 19th of October of this present year,” said the executive.  On the numbers of the season, Samuel Franco indicated that Manta regularly attends between 22 and 25 passenger vessels, with the arrival of 25 thousand tourists.

“In past season, with cruise issues, between 22 and 25 cruise vessels are received, where there are approximately 25 thousand passengers who are received in a single season from small cruises dedicated to exploration and discovery, and this allows for Manta as a city to continue developing with more tourist offers.  There are certain places in Manta and the province of Manabi such as the enviable beaches and the spectacular gastronomy,” he explained.  Regarding the characteristics of the passenger terminal, Franco Caicedo said he would continue the experience from VTP in Valparaiso.  “The passenger terminal has a very avant-garde, futuristic and elegant architecture, has 1300 square metres, and as well as serving as a passenger terminal, it is going to be a Convention Centre for the city, because the cruise season is seasonal, and in the other months, the city can make use of the area to hold events.  There will be amenities for passengers, WI fi, scanners, services, car rental, etc., all for cruise passengers,” he assured.
